The Basics of Preparing Cocktail-Types of Cocktails and a few pointers


Cocktails can be categorized in two ways,
Short Drinks
Short Drinks contain approximately 6-14 cl. of liquids. They are pretty strong and contain a higher concentration of alcohol then the rest. Short drinks are often taken by the people as Digestive drinks.

Long Drinks
These are often enjoyed as aperitif and contain approximately 14 and 25 cl. of fluids. They contain less concentration of alcohol then the short drinks and are often used as a thirst quenching daytime beverage.

Preparing Cocktails
It is true that the number of cocktail recipes is infinite and all sorts of combinations are possible to come up with various sorts of cocktail recipes. However here a few pointers that one should keep in mind while preparing any cocktail drink.
1)      Both Short and Long drink shouldn’t more than 7 cl. Of alcohol.
2)      If you are following a particular cocktail recipe then always follow the order
3)      Never mix more than 5 different ingredients.
4)      By mixing 2 “bad” products, you can never get a good result.
5)      Dairy products never combine well with fruit juices.
6)      Never mix a wine based spirit like cognac with any grain based spirit like gin vodka or whisky.
